UPDATED 5/8/2000

The pictures are taken by a little Kritter USB digital camera connected to my Apple desktop computer at Mass General Hospital in Boston, and the images are uploaded from my desktop computer to my webserver every 5 minutes using a program called CoolCam.

I'm usually in my office in Boston on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. However, I leave my computer on all the time (running SETI@home...I must help the search!), so you'll see an empty office when I'm not around.

Maybe I'll be working late...maybe I'm hiding under the desk...maybe I'll build a little diorama with some of the action figures in my office...who knows? You never know what you'll see.

Isn't this exciting?...yes, it's better than the lottery...

Seriously...this scripting of camera functions has many possibilities. One can think of many applications in medicine/medical research. How about a camera taking pictures of patients being monitored? ("Is Mr. Smith still sleeping? Let's check the webserver...it updates a pic of his bed whenever I click on this button....") Or how about monitoring an experiment? ("I left a gel running overnight...I wonder if it is a good one. I'm not in the lab, but I can check the camera updates from home using Netscape...holy cow, look at those BANDS!!") You get the idea...

A television show called "The Wild Wild Web" interviewed me about WebCams and my camera. Check out the segment here (you need a RealMedia player to see it). The show is now off the air... :(

Yep...you can send me a short written message (i.e., alphanumeric), directly to my mobile phone. Say hello! If I'm in the picture, I just might wave to you and send you a text message in the image screen!

Send me a message by visiting www.pagejohn.com

I'm not the only person with a camera on the Web. Look at this:
